I am Sriparna Nandy, a poet, story teller, translator, and a singer from Kolkata, India. My poems, stories, novels, and reviews have been published under my pen name June Nandy. I write about the passage of time, the memories, vulnerabilities and insecurities of bodies, and the forgotten people and places through my words. My journey with literature has taken me across the world, with my poetry and prose published in prestigious literary journals in North America, South Africa, Canada, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and India.
Once a translator for the Government of India, I chose to leave that path to dedicate myself fully to creative writing. My works have found a home in journals such as The Stockholm Review of Literature, UCity Review, Connotation Press, Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, Qarrtsiluni, Muse India, and elsewhere. Some of my notable pieces include Mirror, Thar, A Walk through the Gaps and Dyeing Craft, an award winning poem.
For me, writing is a way to observe, listen, feel, and capture the fleeting moments. Music is a big part of my life. It makes me feel good. My life's riches exist because of this, which is both external and internal. I hear the language acts as well as sounds of the natural world as music, the latter in particular informs me about the culture and health of a place which I try to weave into my writing.
